RECIPIENTS

D'Niyah Smith
University of Central Oklahoma
2025
I have a passion for helping others, especially those often overlooked, which drives my pursuit of a career in special education. My goal is to support and inspire students with disabilities, creating a classroom where every child feels valued. Influenced by teachers who believed in me, I want to provide that same encouragement. Through internships, church nursery work, and community projects, I’ve learned patience, empathy, and the value of involvement beyond academics.

I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science with the goal of becoming a primary sports medicine physician. I strive for the Dean’s Scholastic Honors List while engaging in the Black Student Association, Phi Eta Sigma, and Student Success Academy. I’ve volunteered with the Animal Rescue Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, and Catholic Charities. Guided by my passion for sports, education, and service, I aim to help athletes prevent and recover from injuries.

Ashlyne Johnson
Rogers State University
2024
Raised in a large family with nine siblings, I found my passion for working with children through the YMCA’s before/after school program and summer camp. Originally planning to pursue nursing after a hospital internship, my YMCA experience inspired me to switch to early childhood education. I aim to become an elementary school teacher and earn a bachelor’s, possibly a master’s, making learning engaging while helping students build a strong foundation for success.

Harmony Smith
University of Central Oklahoma
2024
My connection to Douglass is deeply personal, built on generations of love, legacy, and pride. As a college student, I’m building on that foundation through leadership and service—coordinating the Black Student Association’s Freshman Action Team, working in the Student Involvement Center, and volunteering with groups like the NAACP and Asian American Student Association. These roles have shown me that true leadership is showing up for your community when it matters most.

Samarah Robinson

I’m Samarah Robinson, a sophomore double major in Music Theatre and Vocal Performance at Oklahoma City University, graduating in May 2027. This fall, I’ll begin my second year as Director of Communications for the Student Activities Council. After undergrad, I plan to pursue a Master’s in Vocal Performance. The DA Scholarship was a huge help with unexpected first-year expenses. These past two years have been full of growth, art, and amazing friendships.
